First initiative for a learning series to combine AI and Sustainability 

Artificial intelligence (AI) is drastically transforming sustainability efforts in many industries. It is rapidly opening up a new frontier in business practices and paves the way for managing various sustainability challenges either locally or globally. 

Positive Applications of AI 

Some positive applications of AI target SDGs 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) and SDGs 13 (Climate Action) involve developing more robust tools to predict and manage pollution, more efficient energy use through smart grid. 

Following the national policy and call for industry 4.0 and digital transformation, it is vital that we learn the fundamental of this new technology and enabling AI for sustainable development needs.

Our Speaker

Mohammed Afsal is the Chief Technology Officer of Robomy Sdn Bhd, a company doing research and product development in artificial intelligence. He is an electronics and telecommunication engineer with 18 years of experience in architecting and building embedded systems, software applications and electronic products. 

Over the years, he has dealt with about 100 different product development cases for various clients, including a novel heterogeneous multicore processor architecture. 


One of the products to a client received international innovation gold medal at Brussels, Belgium. During the initial COVID-19 crisis months, Mohammed Afsal and team developed Robomy Intelligent X-ray Analyser (RIXA) for analysing X-ray images and predicting possibilities of Covod-19 infection. At Robomy, he and his team work on many useful technologies and solutions that provide affordable digitalization to industries. 

Mohammed Afsal is also a researcher in artificial intelligence and inventor, who has a recent patent application in brain-machine interfacing.
